SURREAL SOLIHULL

In partnership with ‘Surreal Solihull’, Solihull CEP has been working with its network of local schools and colleges to provide young artists with the opportunity to have their work featured in this exhibition.
Responding to the same brief as 29 commissioned artists from the West Midlands, these young creatives explored the connections between Surrealism, Solihull, and the legacy of Emmy Bridgwater, who created dreamlike landscapes while living in the borough. They were encouraged to experiment with techniques such as automatic drawing and collage, while drawing inspiration from the natural world to create thought-provoking imagery.

This project has empowered young artists to take creative risks, embrace the unexpected, and see their work exhibited in a professional setting. Their bold and imaginative responses remind us that Surrealism is more than just an artistic movement of the past—it is a way of thinking that invites curiosity, playfulness, and boundless creativity.

‘Surreal Solihull’ continues with display units positioned along Solihull High Street.
